Ed DeChant with Presidential candidate Jimmy Carter in 1975.  Carter chartered two United Airlines B 727's for the primary campaign.  DeChant was Vice Chairman of the Sussex County Democratic Committee at the time he was chosen for the Carter Crew.  He was asked to hand pick the other "democrat friendly" pilots who would fly those airplanes.
