James Vesco

Jimmy Vesco.     He was one of my childhood friends.   I mean early childhood.   He and his sister, Barbara, and me and my brother, Johnny, were together all the time.   We played all day long outside and every evening played "kick the can" in the street.  No TV at that time.   We were so happy and innocent and lucky.

We used to "steal" from the neighbor that lived between us.   It wasn't much,  but we loved to take her precious tomatoes from the railing on her back porch.   She would put them there to ripen but it was a lost cause for her.   By the way,  her name was Mrs. Sinner, Reverand Sinner's wife.   Did that make it twice as bad??   I think Jimmy and Johnny thought so.

Jimmy will always hold a special place in my heart.  ---- Betty Charles

We went all through school together, from St. Rose to GHS.  I remember an incident when he was parked in his garage with his girl friend, Carol Dudley.  Johnny Charles locked them in the garage with a padlock that Jimmy's father had for the gargage doors.  Johnny laughed all the way home as he heard Jimmy saying to him, "I'll get you for this."  He ended up braking a window out of the garage so that he could unlock the padlock.

Jimmy had a great work ethic and always worked very hard at any job he ever had.  I have never seen him mad at anyone.   He was a great friend and you could count on him no matter what the situation.

He ended up in California and according to Johnny Charles he ended up getting cancer and died living with one of his sons.

God Rest Your Soul, Jimmy.  Louie Antonucci
