GHS Journal Feb 2010 Page Two
From the Editor
The older we get, the faster the years fly by! We are now only months away from our 50th Reunion Weekend August 27-29 THIS YEAR! The response to group emails, our 2006 newsletter, phone calls from our committee and word of mouth is encouraging. We are especially grateful to those who donated seed money to help us with mailing and event deposit fees. We also have other donations from generous classmates including a website, http://www.girardhs60.com/, a banner, and award prizes. If you or your business can contribute items or money to defray expenses, please let us know. Nothing is insignificant having come from a classmate. Contact Judy Bixler at j1605f@sbcglobal.net or me, Marsha Powers, at marshaambrose@hotmail.com or 919-859-0143 (if you aren‘t email inclined).

GHS Football Soaring
A newly renovated football/track stadium complete with artificial turf along with an outstanding football record the past few years has renewed interest in the sport for the Girard community. The Class of ‘60 is going to participate in that excitement as the 50th reunion begins the night of the first home football game of 2010. Classmates won’t want to miss the opportunity to sit together and enjoy an August evening of football as Girard takes on Akron Manchester at 7pm Friday, August 27. An alumni pep rally and reunion kickoff will be held at Amen Corner restaurant and bar before the game. The success of GHS teams in recent years and the draw of playing on artificial turf has brought powerful teams outside the Steel Valley Conference to request slots on Girard’s schedule.
Sparkling Stadium A state-of-the-art artificial turf field, a fresh coat of paint, a new scoreboard, new red reserved seats, and a resurfaced track highlight the remodeled 65 year old stadium. Tickets to the game are $6 each and a pep rally T-shirt $7. A buffet after the game at Amen Corner is included in your reunion weekend registration fee of $50.
